Wet & Wild

A month ago, Eastern Australia was smoky with raging bushfires and in the grips of ground-cracking drought. Several rain dumps later and the air is sweet with flowering trees and shrubs and formerly brown grass is a rich, ripe green. Last night brought thunderstorms out of a Vincent Price mad scientist film. Tonight it's back to a cricket chorus and the occasional hoon.

A few more photos from the Brisbane road trip:
Brisbane's skyline amidst tropical abundance.

Surfer's Paradise, a couple hours south of Brisbane along the Gold Coast.

Queensland farmland from a speeding Holden.

An Aussie icon (the banana, not the American) along NSW's northern coast.
