Local history

A scarcity of euphemistically named 'heritage houses' dot the Sydney map, mainly due to poor construction, willful neglect and a rejection of Aussie 'convict' history. The few that are left are consumed by voracious land developers and their kudzu 'burbs. We're just a couple blocks from a 19th-century structure with an uncertain history called the Merriville House. Aradhna & I met its owner a few weeks back and he invited us to this past weekend's annual 'Merriville House Day'.

Water tank, still in use.

A flower among flowers.

Colin, Marrickville House's owner, loved this barn so much when he first saw it he bought the whole property.

Former paddock.

Fantastic gum tree.

Large plant, big galoot, old car.
