It's the Queen's Birthday in Australia. Well, it's not actually the queen's birthday (she was born in April, 1926) but Australia celebrates the Queen's Birthday today. Well, that's not entirely true, as Western Australia does it on the first of October.

More than a civic genuflection, Queen's Birthday is a full-blown public holiday and 'honours' are given to those on the Queen's birthday list. As a contractor, Queen's Birthday is a day off without pay for this Yank.
