Before TV sports became 24-hour content packaged and sold like Taco Bell to an over-caffeinated 15-29 male demographic, ABC's Jim McKay was as solid a presence as CBS's Walter Cronkite. His gravitas made the potpourri of sports covered on ABC's Wide World of Sports and various Olympic broadcasts an honourable amalgam of the thrill of victory ... and agony of defeat. McKay passed away on Saturday at the age of 86.
