The McCain campaign would much rather have the story about phony and foolish diversions than about the future. This happens every election cycle. Every 4 years, this is what we do.These are the words of a human being. A thinking, breathing, intellectually curious and cognizant human being named Barack Obama.
Sadly, US presidential campaigns aren't about choosing the most qualified person to lead a nation. They're about automotons spewing spin over and over and over again. As they do so, a once great nation commits slow suicide. The rest of the world watches in sympathetic disbelief.
Watch this clip of John McCain answering a critically important question -- What experience does Gov. Palin have in regards to national security? -- without thinking it MUST be a cut-and-paste video mockery created by a Democratic 527 group:I've watched this clip in its entirety more than once and still can't fathom how poorly McCain comes across. Is anyone in the US paying attention? This is John McCain, sans teleprompter:
ROD CALDWELL: Let's move on to what you say is the number one issue facing the United States in our time, that is the challenge of addressing Islamist extremism. What credentials does Gov. Palin have in national security, diplomacy, foreign policy that qualify her to be your partner on that issue of the fight against Islamist extremism? This is a word-for-word transcription; he actually said Palin "knows more about energy than, uh, probably anyone else in the United States of America." WHAT? Is there ANYONE on the planet who'd AGREE with that rubbish? McCain may have once offered an exaggerated 'straight-shooting' alternative to creeps like Romney and Huckabee, but his ship of 'maverick thinking' set sail about the same time as Karl Rove -- who destroyed McCain's 2000 presidential ambitions -- climbed on board and hoisted the skull and crossbones.
JOHN MCCAIN: Well, obviously the economy is also a major challenge.
RC: I'm using your words, Sen. McCain, you have said this summer that the number one challenge of our time is Islamist extremism.
JM: I said the greatest challenge of our time is national security threats. I've also said that jobs and the economy are the number one issue facing America, so, uh, but the point is Gov. Palin is right on the issues. She understands energy, which is one of the fundamental issues of our nation's security, uh, she is responsible for a $40 billion pipeline that's gonna bring natural gas, uh, to the lower 48. She was right on Iraq, Sen. Obama was wrong. She has more experience than Sen. Obama does. She, uh, was right on Russia, he was wrong as he made moral equivalency between Russia and Georgia at the time Russia attacked. She was right on Iran, he was wrong on Iran. She doesn't wanna sit down face to face negotiations with A .... or the other leaders. She was right on foreign policy, Sen. Obama is wrong, and she, uh, I'm sure has the experience and the judgment necessary to lead this country and I'm confident the American people will agree with her as well.
RC: You say you're sure she has experience but again I'm asking for an example: What experience does she have in the field of national security?
JM: Energy. She knows more about energy than, uh, probably anyone else in the United States of America. She represents ... is governor of a state ... that 20% of America's energy supply comes from there, and we all know that, uh, energy is, uh, critical and vital national security issue. We've gotta stop sending $700 billion of American money to countries that don't like us very much. She's very well-versed on that issue, and uh, she ... represents ... the governor of a state that's right next to Russia. She understands Russia and their newly, uh uh, aggressive behaviour in the world which is also something to be concerned about.
Watch the clip. Read the transcript. Share it with those too swept up in the daily ping-pong of 'phony and foolish diversions' to comprehend how ridiculous McCain sounds when he's forced to speak for himself and/or defend his own words.
Restore humanity to the White House. It's America's duty to the world.
