Ivanhoe Saturday

If Balaclava was bohemia, than Ivanhoe is bland bliss. Along the short walk from our place to Ivanhoe's shopping district we climb soft hills and pass stands of gum trees and gardens abloom with roses. The old Heidelberg Town Hall (above & below) is an art deco landmark.
Built in 1937 and now known as The Centre, the building is one of Melbourne's many art deco treasures.

CBD skyline hovers over Ivanhoe's shopping district.

The proprietor of Cafe Ivanhoe, Paul was the first person I spoke to on my initial, completely off-the-cuff visit to Ivanhoe back in December when Aradhna and I were pondering post-Balaclava options. I've since become a regular at his lovely cafe. Poor guy.

Sitting at the front window of Cafe Ivanhoe, doing what Melburnians do on Saturdays.

This giant scarred tree is a sacred cultural relic for Australia's indigenous people. Each protected tree tells a story of Australia's original inhabitants.
