Right-wing nut-jobs won't care -- they're too busy screaming 'Socialist!' and 'Earmarks!' to notice -- but President Barack Obama is about to undo another of Bush/Cheney's grotesque betrayals of American principle: Along with lifting restrictions on funding for human embryonic stem cell research, he'll "issue a presidential memorandum aimed at insulating scientific decisions across the federal government from political influence." Amen.
Not hard to imagine Bush/Cheney ideologues fighting the US space program back in the '60s or Salk vaccination efforts to eradicate polio in the '50s. Like religious extremists of the Middle East, evangelical conservatives in the US put dogma first, societal progress second. With a man who claimed Jesus Christ himself made him president, they were granted carte blanche to denigrate proven science regarding evolution, climate change, medical research and more. President Obama's efforts will hopefully bring a quick end to this intellectually backward epoch of American history.
