After the first 4 games of the 2009 footy season, the Richmond Tigers were a winless laughingstock whose coach's survival was front page news. Their 0-4 start was particularly headline-grabbing as it was preceded by months of hype surrounding its signing of fallen star Ben Cousins. Completing the woeful script, Cousins was injured in his first game with Richmond and has been sidelined since.
All of this made last night's convincing victory over North Melbourne akin to a biopsy report coming back benign for Tigers fans (like Aradhna and I) that should quell coach Terry Wallace's death watch. The season may still prove to be a write-off, but hell, they ain't gonna go winless!
