St Kilda Festival 2011

Aradhna and I took a walk on a lovely Sunday afternoon to the final day of the annual St Kilda Festival yesterday. All roads near the foreshore where closed to traffic and jammed with well-dressed Melburnians and severely under-dressed bogans from the outer suburbs. The stage shown on the left was the largest but many others were scattered throughout a 3-4 block radius, each thumping with a variety of live music acts. Vendors sold obscene t-shirts and handmade jewelery and obscene t-shirts and hippie food and obscene t-shirts. Aradhna and I wisely explored in the early afternoon before a record crowd of 420,000 jammed into St Kilda.

Luna Park wasn't the focus of the festival, but its entranceway was a popular backdrop for photos.

Babywear has come a long way since basic pink and blue. I just hope the Cash/Carter family is receiving royalties.

Is it any wonder Australia's the world's most obese country? Do they apply special Big Mac sauce to a wound? Use thick creamy shake drips to treat dehydration? Did Mayor McCheese use his political clout to become chief surgeon?

A 'Zumba' demo caught Aradhna's eye as walked along St Kilda's boardwalk. A frighteningly fit woman repeatedly told participants that they were, in fact, doing Zumba, because Zumba is so easy. If it's so easy, why do suburban housewives pay through the nose for it?

This place cracked Aradhna up. At last, a solution to the perpetual fried potato delivery system conundrum!

A Hare Krishna festival was taking place alongside the much larger St Kilda festival. These statues caught my eye, but Aradhna was more interested in a booth selling Hare Krishna snacks.

Three words I've never seen used in the same context: 'Hare', 'Krishna' and 'Security'.

Just another lovely day with my lovely wife in lovely St Kilda.
