Heartbreaker

See a lot of animals that don't make it but this one broke my heart. Male juvenile ringtail possum, found on ground in Caulfield Park. He was malnourished, cold and had wounds on his face, most likely from a cat. We put joeys in knitted pouches during transport but this guy didn't want to curl up in the bottom of the pouch. Instead, he stuck his front paw out the top and watched me as I drove to the vet.

Yeah yeah ... I know ... don't anthropomorphicise ... but this guy had a certain ... something.

RIP, little fella.
