Wildlife Vic encounters (cont.)

This young Rainbow Lorikeet was found on the ground by a member of the public. Fledgling birds often fall from their nests or attempt to take flight before they're fully developed. In those cases we attempt to re-nest, otherwise the birds are taken into care until their physical development catches up with their desire to fly.
High heat and very little rain this summer has made surviving even more difficult for all of Melbourne's wildlife. This ringtail's mama was found dead, her malnourished joey clinging to her. He spent a few days at a Bentleigh vet and is now in the care of one of Wildlife Vic's amazing volunteers.
