See ya.

I'm old.

That's my first reaction to the end of Joe Torre's 12-year reign as Yankees manager with his rejection of an incentive-laden 1-year deal. I clearly remember when Buck Showalter -- heralded as a savior at the time for leading the Yanks to the '95 playoffs -- was replaced by a man the NY Daily News called 'Clueless Joe' on its front page.

Turns out he wasn't so clueless and today leaves the Bronx with 4 World Series titles and a Hall of Fame resume.

Good on him. For years, baseball's deepest well of wisdom resided in the Yankees' dugout with the triumvirate of Torre, Zimmer and Stottlemyre. Zim and Mel are gone, and now the man called 'Mr. Torre' by Derek Jeter -- who's known no other manager in his Hall of Fame career -- joins the exodus.

Thanks for the memories, Mr. Torre.

you couldn't be any more wrong. this has nothing to do with being old. it has to do with having pride. the Yankee organization is at the start of a new era alright and it's the start of a downward spiral.

Unfort, as "usual", the Yankees have taken the departure of a beloved figure and botched it. Truly, the only "beloved" figure to receive a proper send off was Don Mattingly himself, but from what I remember, that wasn't exactly flawless either.

We can list the names, Yogi, Billy, Reggie, Nettles, Gossage, Winfield, the coaches mentioned by the author, all given the most awkward of boots.

I don't quite get it-some people are just not good at saying goodbye, but isn't that just a bit childlike?

Torre was handled with "ham hands" and this new "Steinbrenner Era-Part 2" is not exactly off to a glorious start.
