The old 'hood

Strolled up the beach and boardwalk yesterday, taking in familiar (and unfamiliar) sights ...
The Manchester Inn, one of Ocean Grove's many Victorian buildings, dates back to 1880. I'm in a cozy room on the 2nd floor.

Looking south from an Ocean Grove jetty.

Looking north from an Asbury Park jetty (a view no longer sullied by the bones of the C-8 structure.).

I'd been warned, but seeing the Casino's hulk removed from AP's beach was akin to returning home and finding a centuries-old tree missing from your front lawn.

The flair of the old HoJo's remains, but its soul has been bleached by a developer's foul tide.

This new collection of condos rose on a spot occupied by the majestic Monterey Hotel, which was razed in 1963. The lot was barren for over 40 years -- and for those of us who lived here, became part of 'our' shoreline. So while this new structure is visually appealing, it feels ... wrong.

Conversely, nothing has changed in Frank's Deli on Main Street.

Typical autumnal stoop, albeit with ubiquitous (in AP) gay pride flag.

Dona & Rob of Sunset Landing. I miss 'em.

Old friend Bill Meisch, dubbed "Mayor of Cookman Ave" by no less an AP authority than Bruce Springsteen, shows off one of House of Modern Living's many 'fun & fabulous' pieces.

You have to travel to the Blue Mountains in Sydney's west to see fall colours. Here, autumn is bursting nearly everywhere you look.
