Back in NYC

Little before 5 am in my comfy hotel room. WNYC playing creepy German opera on the clock radio, traffic rumbling along McCarter Highway outside my window, fluffy bed beckoning but my kablooie circadian rhythms say nah acha. Spent yesterday in the City. Met ol' pal Heidi for lunch at Utsav and then ... shopped, first in Midtown and then on Canal Street. Yeah, I was a bloody tourist. So shoot me.
Sightseeing along the walk to Newark Penn Station from my hotel. (Sopranos fans will recognize the tank on the left.)

The Colorado ... the Mississippi ... the Amazon ... the Newark. UPDATE: An anonymous commenter has kindly pointed out that this is the mighty Passaic River, not the Newark.

From a Manhattan-bound NJ Transit train window, the NJ Turnpike marauds over the swamps of Jersey.

Me preparing to take a chomp out of a walking & waving Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

The maelstrom of Canal Street, where I was drawn to retrieve a faux Gucci bag for a certain Indo-Fijian-Aussie beauty. To quote a delusional Commander-in-Chief, 'Mission Accomplished'.

Herald Square, home of the upcoming Thanksgiving Day parade.

A photo for Alf: Bring back any memories, mate?

A photo for Aradhna: It wasn't from Sarge's, but it was delicious. Thought of you with every bite ...

I think our Bloggy Friend knows that actual river name is the Passaic.

But, since it is a journal of international flair, the Newark River has the ring of the intent in the comment.

Keep it going, JW- The Mission continues.
