I could have walked out of JFK airport last night blindfolded and recognized the unmistakable olfactory smoothie of bus fumes, Jamaica Bay sea salt and rush hour Van Wyck Expressway traffic. Typical autumn night in NY metro area, cool and flavourful. Rode the Air Train and E train (shown above) to Penn Station, then a NJ Transit train to Newark Penn Station and a taxi to my hotel.
Time it took to get from my Aussie home to my NJ hotel: 26.5 hours.
Time it took to devour 2 glasses of perfect sangria and 2 delicious garlic pork chops from Don Pepe Portuguese restaurant: 20 minutes.
As Australia cannot boast of a proud Portuguese neighborhood like the Ironbound here in Newark, it was time well spent .........
